History Walks & Talks

Our History Walks and Talks program has now ended. We may restart it in future.

Led by local historian, Mervyn Edwards, our History Walks and Talks are an engaging,entertaining and active way to learn about the rich heritage of our local area.

From April to September inclusive, walks take place on a level route for accessibilty reasons. Usually lasting between 45 & 60 minutes with stops at points of interest. There is usually an opportunity to socialise at local establishments afterwards.

From October to March inclusive, talks take place at The Victoria Lounge, Hanley (formerly Reardon's Snooker Hall). There is plenty of scope for socialising afterwards. Many stay for refreshemnts in The Victoria Lounge or there are plenty of places nearby. It is close the bus station and a car park is opposite in John Street.

Price is £4 per person with no booking required - Cash only please.

Monday 4th August - History Walk

Join us for August's History Walk. Sutherland Road in Longton is/was reknowned as one of the city's premier locations for pottery works. Mervyn Edwards will guide you through it's history.

Monday 7th April - A walk around Tunstall Memorial Gardens

Join Mervyn Edwards on our 1st History Walk of the season. Held in The Memorial Gardens in Tunstall, it is sure to be informative.

Monday 3rd March - History Talk - Mervyn's Pub Travels

Join us for an Ale Odyssey. A talk about The Potteries pub heritage. Unfortunately many have been lost but there are still plenty of great ones around. 

Held at The Victoria Lounge - Reardon's, they have some excellent ales on the bar. Hot and cold drinks also available. They also serve food.

The Lost buildings of Hanley

Our first History Talk of 2025. produced and presented by Mervyn Edwards takes a look back a the many lost buildings of Hanley.

The old indoor market where The Potteries Centre now stands and the gothic-style public baths that were situated adjacent to the Town Hall and Victoria Hall.
